What is the meaning of Poparuba? The word Poparuba represents the bliss of indulgence combined with the serenity of knowing our delicious little pleasure-treasures won’t ever cause a blood-sugar-spike or carb-coma. Think: “POP” a happy word + “ARUBA” a beautiful island. Don’t worry if you have never heard of it, we totally made it up!
Dairy-Free? We currently do not offer a dairy-free option
Gluten-Free? Yes, we make our cake bites without grain flours. Instead we bake them up with coconut, almond and garbanzo flours and produced in a Certified Gluten-Free facility.
Are you Vegan? No, Poparuba Cake Bites are not vegan, they contain eggs & dairy.
How many calories? 50 or 70 calories depending on the flavor
Safe for Diabetics? Yes, they are low glycemic because they are low in sugar and we don’t use grain flour we use only low glycemic ingredients. Poparuba Cake bites contain only 3-4g net carbohydrates per cake and only 2-3g sugar, depending on flavor and developed to stabilize blood sugar levels. They are made without grain flours and sweetened with birch tree Xylitol instead of sugar.
Do they have to be refrigerated? What is the shelf-life? No, the do not need to be refrigerated, but if you’re not going to eat them right away we recommend refrigerating them. I like them out of the freezer, as well… kind of like an ice cream bon-bon. The shelf life is 1 year frozen, 21 days once in your refrigerated or 1 week at room temperature.
What are Net Carbs? Net carbs are the carbs that affect your blood sugar and insulin levels. When you look at the nutritional facts panel, you can subtract the fiber grams and the sugar alcohol grams (Xylitol grams) from the total carbohydrate count to get the “net carb” count, or the carbs that your body will actually use. Poparuba Cake bites have between 1- 3g net carbs depending on the flavor
What Is Xylitol? Xylitol is what makes Poparuba Cake Bites sweet without the sugar! It tastes sweet like sugar but won’t raise blood sugar levels like sugar does, making it a safe and healthy alternative to sugar. It is naturally occurring in the human body and in many fruits and vegetables and has many benefits including being anti microbial. It does not contribute to tooth decay and can even help reverse tooth decay by helping to promote a neutral ph inside of the mouth. Xylitol can help prevent ear, nose and throat infections and to strengthen bones. Xylitol is a natural byproduct of the fermentation of fibrous vegetable food sources and birch tree wood pulp. Ours actually comes from Birch trees from sustainable forestry. The process used to make our Xylitol is very green/eco friendly.
