Poparuba Cake Bites are designed to stabilize your blood sugar and increase energy levels and they even boost your metabolism and help to keep you in fat burning mode, that’s because they are low glycemic (GI), meaning they don’t cause the rapid blood sugar rise and crash that traditional pastries do.

We make out Cake Bites with organic gluten-free garbanzo (chickpea) flour, almond flour, coconut flour and Birch Tree Xylitol. Xylitol is a sugar alcohol that occurs naturally in many fruits and vegetables. Though Xylitol looks and tastes like sugar, it has 40% fewer calories and a glycemic index (GI), a measure of how quickly a food raises blood sugar, is only 7, whereas regular sugar has a GI between 60–70.

Added sugar may be the single most unhealthy ingredient in the modern diet. Xylitol has a very low glycemic Index and doesn't spike blood sugar or insulin and has 40% fewer calories than sugar. Xylitol contains zero fructose and has negligible effects on blood sugar and insulin. One of the negative effects of added sugar and high-fructose corn syrup is that it can spike blood sugar and insulin levels. Due to its high levels of fructose, it can also lead to insulin resistance and multiple metabolic problems when consumed in excess.

Foods made with refined wheat are high in carbs, but low in fat and fiber. Conversely, almond and garbanzo flours are low in carbs yet high in healthy fats and fiber. The reason it’s important to adopt a low glycemic approach to eating is insulin control. Insulin is responsible for transporting sugar in the blood to its final destinations. When a person overly consumes too many refined or fast acting carbohydrates, too much insulin gets released into the blood stream in an attempt to shuttle the overload of carbohydrates (or sugar, which is what carbs turn into) in the blood stream to “appropriate” destinations so that the blood-sugar is in control. 

A low-glycemic means slowing down the rate at which glucose enters your blood stream while speeding up the rate at which your body is burning fuel and accessing body fat stores for energy. An easy way to remember what’s happening is: low glycemic = slower to break down/slower to release sugar into the blood = less insulin released = less fat storage, less hunger, and more stable energy.
